Hugh Nankivell live on Soundart Radio – Totnes Monster 102.5fm

Hugh popped in for a couple of our Friday shows, away from his busy festival season. I spent much of the time in his company laughing, and his is a most charming form of chaos. Check out Basic Rock Song:

Whatever you think of Paignton Zoo, they missed a trick turning Hugh down when he wanted to be the composer-in-residence.

Basic Rock Song

by Hugh Nankivell

chorus

There are three different kinds of rock

Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic

If you use three chords, you can’t go wrong – This is a basic rock song

Verse 1

Igneous rock comes from under the earth – Red and orange explosion, a lava birth

It shoots out stones and lumps and pumice – Hurls them out from beneath the surface

Is that clear, do you now know? – Igneous rock comes from a VOLCANO

Verse 2

Sedimentary rock is made from gravel, shells and sand – Moved by water and ice and wind

Then dropped at the bottom of the sea it gets squashed together

And as it piles up it starts to make layers

Is that clear, do you know what I meant? – Sedimentary rock is made from – SEDIMENT

Verse 3

Metamorphic rock has altered it’s state – Resulting in marble or roofing slate

It’s been pushed and squashed and and shifted and heated

Until it becomes something quite different

Is that clear, or does it still seem strange?

Metamporphic rock is rock that  – HAS BEEN CHANGED
